Powders of lamellar structure; flakes Powders of lamellar structure can be distinguished by microscope. They are extremely fine-grained, usually shiny, a little oily and are generally used as pigments for paints. Flakes can be distinguished by the naked eye or through a magnifying glass. They appear as small, fine, irregular scales and are generally used as a coating material.
